Throughout its 160-year history, Children’s Service Center has expanded to meet the growing need for services in the areas of behavioral health, substance use and autism disorders (including crisis intervention) in Northeastern Pennsylvania. This year, we add primary care to our array of services to meet the total health care needs of families in our care with the opening of the Conyngham Primary Health Care Center, named to honor a local family with a longstanding partnership with the organization. Studies show that people with mental health concerns who also have regular primary care have better outcomes.
Despite many changes in the regional healthcare landscape, Children’s Service Center and its adult affiliate, Robinson Counseling Center, have maintained continuous operations due to longstanding partnerships with foundations, corporations, municipalities, school districts, and individual donors who trust our team to meet the needs of underserved populations.
CSC will open its new 12,500-sq. foot addition to its Outpatient Building at 335 S. Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre, with the first patient appointments on October 3, 2022 at the Conyngham Primary Health Care Center. The project brings mental health, primary care and pharmacy services together under one roof with a fully integrated medical record to serve families in Wyoming Valley with a truly seamless experience. The new addition also encompasses 32 new offices for outpatient behavioral health care.
The building construction was fully funded by a capital campaign that drew major support from AllOne Foundation & Charities, the Harry & Jeannette Weinberg Foundation, M&T Bank, Moses Taylor Foundation, PNC, the McCole Foundation, Martha Bennet Trust, Children’s Service Center and the Children’s Home, as well as funding from corporate and private donors.
The Conyngham Center Medical Director is Renata Meyer, MD, who is joined by a staff that includes a nurse practitioner, wellness nurses and a medical assistant to provide preventive and treatment services for individuals of all ages.
A formal dedication is planned at a later date this fall.
